Riverfly monitoring with Wear Rivers Trust

2 Sep

Wear Rivers Trust is planning to run riverfly training this Autumn as we are very much in need of new, enthusiastic volunteers to help us keep an eye on the quality of our water and invertebrate life. This involves doing a monthly kick sample at a river site and recording the numbers of invertebrates that you find. This is a great way of supporting the Trust’s work as well as helping you get to know your local river better.

In order to get trained in the method and to receive a kit, you need to attend a free training day with us. We propose to run training on Saturday 14th September at Low Barns Nature Reserve from 9.30am until approximately 5pm. Training involves a presentation about why and how we monitor riverflies, a lot of time on the river with demonstrations and time to practice the method and identification, and then the opportunity to look at the invertebrate life a bit closer under the microscope.

We also plan to run training in October half term, and potentially another Autumn date TBC.
